VOB News July 2023 “Language – every Tongue”

Happy 4th of July!

Recently, I was asked to participate in a recording of the worship songs, of a Native American friend of mine.  I was super honored to be asked, and enjoyed every minute of the work.  I was deeply impacted by the indigenous sounds on the songs, and the depth of the worship message, which my friend was conveying. It also did not escape my notice that the songs themselves, were very tribal in the form of not being ‘western’ at all.  The songs were mainly sung acapella, accompanied only by other voices, and various indigenous instruments, such as Native American drums, shakers and flutes.  I was completely inspired to hear these songs of devotion to the Lord, sung in much more traditional styles.  This led me to consider how music brings such a deep connection to the heart, and how GOD has created music to reach deep within our hearts, to bring honor and glory to Himself.  Every culture in the world, has it’s own unique style of music, it’s own unique language, and it’s own unique use of instrumentation.  There is no doubt in my mind, that the Lord uses this diversity, to bring Himself glory in every ‘tribe, tongue, and nation’.  (Rev. 7:9)

Can you imagine the indigenous person living in the mountains or jungles of Mexico, hearing the sound of worship through the use of their own instruments and language?  The revelation of the thought that, “GOD loves me enough to hear songs of worship and praise in my own language’, must surely be a powerful realization.  I think that we who live in ‘western’ nations, have trouble understanding the depth of meaning a unique cultures music and language can have to a people group.  So much of our lives revolve around English, Spanish or French, and so much of our music is incredibly similar across our nation and even the west’ in general.  But if you think about how music has developed over the ages, you will find that ‘mountain’ music of, say the Appalachian mountains, has a deep Celtic influence, that came over from those who immigrated to the US in the 1800 and 1900’s.   And this is just one small example of how deeply connected people are to the music of their heart, so to speak.

I have heard and read many stories of how tribal cultures around the world, were incredibly deeply impacted when they received the Bible – the very Word of GOD – in their own language.  This is why we so deeply believe in groups such as Wycliffe Bible Translators!  There can be no feeling similar, when a group of people hear and read the Bible in their very own language.  It must be similar when they hear worship songs devoted to Jesus, in their own style.

I think it speaks volumes as to Who our GOD is, when we think of the diversity of people groups around the world, and yet He makes an effort to reach every human being, with the Gospel, in the way that is most easily understood by the people He is going after.  I am thankful that He has called Voice Of the Bride Ministries to be among those who support and participate in bringing indigenous songs and words to the Native American tribes of the USA.  Without ever compromising the Word of GOD, may we continually bring His love, His Word, and His worship, to all those around the world who seek to know Him, and who might do so ever so much more easily, with their own cultural sound and language.  GOD bless you!

VOB News May/June 2023 “San Quintin High/Lows”

This past month our team made a four hour trip south of the US border (220 miles south) to a rural colonia in the greater area of San Quintin Baja California Mexico. You may recall we have made this trip 3 times before in recent years. This go-round VOB had a full truck load of food along with 5 other trucks loaded with food caravanned down. The mission was everything we hoped for. Folks were blessed by the food and we had a wonderful day of outreach ministering to many men, women and children. The food lines were long but everyone got a dispensary.

There were some expected challenges having made this trip before. The roads down the Baja coast beyond Ensenada are narrow and can be rather curvy and tricky with hidden pot holes and shoulders that drop off. Our weighed down trucks served us well and got us to our destination and safely home. That alone is answered prayer knowing what is expected as we have done this trip a few times now.

However the unexpected challenges are the events that follow. As we drove through one small town of San Vicente, population less than 4K, we paraded through dozens and dozens of off road type dune buggies lined up to start a cross peninsula tour. Just an hour after we caravanned through, a van of gunmen opened fire on some of those tour vehicles with machine guns killing 10 and injuring another 9 people. News had spread quickly to where we were through some of our teams phone notifications. As we made our way back, after the outreach 5 hours or so later, the roads were closed and surrounded with multiple armed military and police officials investigating and interviewing witnesses of the incident. An official detour had not even been set up yet as we had to make our way around the 2 block shoot out scene. Surreal to say the least.

Also along the road back, 2 vehicles were passing my truck crossing the center line when the 2nd vehicle was not gonna make it before oncoming vehicle approached. With no shoulders on either side the 2 passing vehicles (in front of me) side swiped to avoid a head on collision. I managed to get slowed down enough out of harms way, all other vehicles managed to stay on the road, but oddly the 2 that collided (and who were passing me illegally and dangerously) never stopped and sped on ahead never to be seen again. Before we made it back to Tijuana we came along 2 more separate accidents that had just happened; one vehicle that had collided into a guard rail head on and another that had clearly flipped several times and was on its side with first responders just arriving.

I don’t think I have to convince you that we had protection all around us and I know I have no doubt that prayers made a difference. We have nearly 2 dozen intercessors who pray each and every time we cross the border. But also we know many of you who partner with us cover us in prayer as part of the team.

Last month we shared 3 prayer requests:

#1 More favor with our border crossings – After a couple more large import fee crossings we have had several more reasonable since.

#2 Prayer for Wayne and team leading Living Waters training in Pasadena – An awesome training of 25 people from all over the country and even 1 person from Egypt. Folks were set free, equipped, and empowered in the Lord.

#3 Prayer for an increase in monthly support – While we still hope to gain new monthly partners (it takes a village) we had a couple unexpected blessings that gave an awesome boost to our remaining years budget.
